Mud Crab was awarded the 2022 CAPA CILECT Prize for Best Fiction Film (Asia-Pacific) and placed 4th overall worldwide, and was nominated for AACTA Award for Best Short Film in 2024.

James Mountain was awarded Best Music for a Short Film at APRA AMCOS Screen Music Awards; Best Original Music in an Australian Short Film at the 2023 Flickerfest Awards; Best Original Score at St Kilda Film Festival; and Best Original Score (National) at Canberra Short Film Festival.

Mud Crab premiered at the 2022 Melbourne International Film Festival.
